Zane Phillips is ready and willing to go the distance.

On the red carpet for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, Out spoke to the hunky star of Fire Island and Glamorous about the ongoing speculation that he could be cast as Hercules in the upcoming live-action Disney remake.

When Out digital director Raffy Ermac asked Phillips if he’d seen the fans calling for him to play the character, he laughed and said, “I won’t say I haven’t.” Well, we won’t say (we’re in love) with that idea.

“I would love to do it. Honestly, listen… it’s so funny, like, I have a musical theater background. I’ve sung that song in a weird, random cabaret before,” Phillips said, referring to the classic Hercules anthem “Go the Distance.” He added, “Yeah, I love that movie.”

In recent years, Disney has been pumping out live-action remakes of classic animated films, releasing new versions of The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and others. Is Hercules next? We certainly hope so!

At the 35th GLAAD Awards Niecy Nash-Betts won the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, and was joined by Fellow Travelers, Bottoms, Monica, Yellowjackets, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Reneé Rapp as other winners.

The 2024 GLAAD Media Awards also included a trophy for Out, which won in the Outstanding Magazine – Overall Coverage category.
